During this 6-week course you will be taught a variety of skills to enable you to throw with confidence. This will include: the preparation of clay, coning, centering, making a variety of shapes including lids and handles, turning and glazing. This course will also teach you how to recycling/repurposing leftover clay, apply colour in the form of oxides, slips and underglazes as well as give you access to the wide range of glaze colours/effects at The Pottery.

During this course you will:

Week 1 – be given a full induction into The Pottery. Be taught how to wedge and recycle your clay. Shown how to cone, centre and form using the potter’s wheel. At the end of the session you will select up to 3 pieces to keep.

Week 2 – be shown how to ‘turn/fettle the work from the previous week. You will have the opportunity to practice your learnt skills by creating 2 pieces that are identical in size and shape. This will help you develop your muscle memory.

Week 3 – Practice practice and more practicing. You will continue to build muscle memory to enable you to perfect a shape of your choice.

Week 4 and 5 – You will have the opportunity to work on an individual project to hone skills learnt so far.

For those of you who have already developed your skills, your tutor will discus a personal project for you to develop.

Week 6 – Glazing and completion of all work.

There will be a maximum of 6 people on this course. Each person will be given their own dedicated wheel and plenty of table space for the duration of the class.

Time: 5.45pm - 8.45pm

Cost £340. Includes, oxides, glazes, firings as well as 4kg of clay (wet weight after completion of work but before bisque firing). For those wishing to make large items more clay/materials/ kiln space can be bought from The Pottery at a minimal cost. It is estimated that each person will make about 30 pieces while they practice skills, of which they may choose their best/favourite 8 pieces to be fired and glazed.

  • Unfortunately in the current climate I will be unable to offer a refund if you change your mind so please do not book unless you are sure that you can attend all sessions. However if you change your mind for any reason you can gift the whole course to a third party (this does not include ClayStation sessions or individual sessions).
